The Embassy was officially opened on 11th July 2011 and since its inception, the staff (past and present) has and will continue to work tirelessly to strengthen bilateral relations between Fiji and China, and the accredited countries such as Kazakhstan and North Korea.

The work of the Embassy is guided by the Fijian Government’s 20-year and 5-year National Development Plan, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Strategic Plan & Annual Operational Plans. From these Plans, the Embassy focuses on five (5) key strategic areas with its engagements with China, these are:

• (i) Global Leadership – to support each other in International Forums and be a leading voice for the Pacific and Small Island States towards regional issues such as Climate Change, Border & National Security, Non-Communicable Diseases and the Prosperous development of our people;
• (ii) Trade, Tourism & Investment - strengthen trade relations, investment opportunities, and performance of Fiji’s Tourism Industry;
• (iii) Socio-Economic Development – agriculture & fisheries cooperation, people-to-people exchange, infrastructural development, health and education cooperation;
• (iv) Security and Defense – maintain the existing strong relationship between Fiji and China Defense Forces and protection of our sovereignty and our people; and
• (v) Public Diplomacy – consular services and strengthening diplomatic relations between Fiji, China and its accredited countries.
